| View south over Browns Island (Motukorea) to Musick Point (left) and West Tamaki Head (right) at the entrance to Tamaki River in East Auckland. Motukorea Volcano is Auckland's best preserved volcanic centre, exhibiting the features of a complete volcanic system on a small scale. The main scoria cone with a well-formed crater (centre) is surrounded by several smaller scoria mounds. Lava flows, submerged by post-glacial sea level rise, extend up to 1 km beyond the present coast. |
